No. All of the soybeans used by our company have been cultivated by traditional breeding methods and not been genetically modified using DNA technology.

tofu

Yes, It is safe to eat straight from the container as the
tofu

Can I eat
tofu
that has turned sour?
No. If the

has turned sour, it shows that there is a high level of microbial contamination in it. If
tofu
is not kept refrigerated at the correct chilled temperature, it will spoil before the expiry date indicated on the box of
tofu
.

How long can I keep Unicurd
tofu
after opening the box?
Refrigerate any unused portions promptly in an airtight container and use within 2 - 3 days maximum. You should cover the
tofu

tofu
is highly perishable once removed from the airtight package. To avoid foodborne illness, we do not recommend eating leftover
tofu
after 3 days.
I have heard that consumption of
tofu
causes Gout?
All types of legumes, including soy, peas and peanuts would be considered moderate in purine content. Therefore, these foods could be included in the diet occasionally. The foods to eliminate completely would be anchovies, sardines, herring, mackarel, scallops, beef kidneys, brains, sweetbreads and liver. However, restricting dietary purine is not always indicated in the treatment of gout.
Other aspects of nutrition therapy such as weight control, limited alcohol intake and control of high blood triglycerides is recommended. A moderate protein intake (0.8kg of body weight) is recommended because excess protein can promote an increase in urinary excertion.a diet high in fat should be avoided because of its effect on renal retention of uric acid. Soyfoods can be used in diets by people with gout within the context of a healthy, low fat diet (no more than 30% of total calories).
Is it true that soy protein helps prevent heart disease?
A soy protein diet may help prevent and treat cardiovascular disease- the leading cause of death in Singapore. The FDA approved health claim for soy protein reads, "25 grams of soy protein a day as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease." 1 pc of Unicurd Tau Kwa 200g contains 27.6 g of soy protein per container.
Is soy protein a complete protein?
Actually, the soybean is the only plant protein that is considered equivalent to animal protein. That’s because soyfoods contain all nine essential amino acids needed to make a protein in the body. Protein quality is also evaluated by the USDA using a score called the Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acids Score (PDCAAS), which can help us to know how well a protein is broken down and used in the body. Soy protein scores the same as animal protein, with a PDCAAS of 1.0. (Reference from Soyfood Health Handbook).
